The 25th anniversary of the rock and roll hall of fame took place this past week in New York City. Instead of having one show with the current class of inductees, there were instead two nights of festivities at Madison Square Garden with a who’s who of rock music. Night one featured Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, and Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel, amon others, in a night that ran six hours. Friday night’s performance, however, featured Metallica playing an 11-song set joined by a number of collaborators.

The last time Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne played on the same stage, it wasn’t even at the same time. Metallica were the opening act for Ozzy on his 1986 tour for The Ultimate Sin. So Ozzy coming out to jam with Metallica on covers of “Paranoid” and “Iron Man” was a rock and roll moment. That was just after Lou Reed joined the band for their versions of “Sweet Jane” and “White Light White Heat.” The Kinks’ Ray Davies also collaborated with the band on their covers of “You Really Got Me” and “All Day and All of the Night.”

Highlights from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts will be broadcast on November 29th on HBO. Until then, click through for the set list and some really crappy video of it!
