For some time now, fans of progressive music have been awaiting music from Storm Corrosion, the collaboration between Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt and Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson. Today fans have been rewarded with “Drag Ropes,” the first track from the album, which lands on May 8. Many fans of the Opeth or Wilson knows that this isn’t the first time they’ve worked together, as Wilson produced Opeth’s Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation albums. Orchestral and sparse on first listen, it’s way more along the lines of the ambient work of Porcupine Tree than anything Opeth has done lighter even than the band’s latest album, Heritage. “Drag Ropes” isn’t for anyone looking for anything remotely heavy, but it’s still a rewarding listen.
