The Final Frontier – Director’s Cut

Iron Maiden | MySpace Music Videos

Iron Maiden have always made pretty good videos, from the memorable old movie indian footage of “Run To the Hills” to the Eddie gallery that “Wasted Years” is. The video for “The Final Frontier,” just posted on ironmaiden.com,  delivers on the promise of the trailer, and is basically a mini-movie that’s part Star Wars and part Aliens. Considering most videos are made for about $28 and show a band playing in a warehouse that only manufactures sparks (to paraphrase Patton Oswalt), this definitely looks like a big budget affair. It was made by Darkside Animation, who have created effects for Lost In Space, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, and blends live action and animation. And yes, Eddie’s in it.

As far as the song, it’s a good one. It’s a little more compact than “El Dorado,” and should get people even more excited for the forthcoming album that shares its title with the single. The album, out here on August 17, will also come in a limited edition “Mission Edition” CD case that will have the director’s cut of the video, and a game, “Mission II: Rescue & Revenge.” And vinyl collectors will be able to pick up the album on double vinyl.
