When we interviewed prog-metallers The Contortionist last year, we were taken by how melodic and ambient their last album Language was. When asking Michael Lessard if that would make it’s way onto it’s follow-up, he replied:
Potentially yes, but we never know what the album is going to sound like until we sit down and start writing. I think albums are timestamps of who I am and the other guys are as musicians for that given time. When we did Language, we weren’t trying to be the heaviest band possible and I think it reflects that. For the next album, maybe we’re feeling aggressive, maybe not.
Today, the band announced their next album, Clairvoyant, and with “Reimagined” debuting via Billboard, the answer seems to be “maybe not.” The track is melodic and straightforward, and isn’t even all that proggy. That being said, it’s pretty catchy, and has us looking forward to the rest of the album, which will be released on September 15th via Good Fight/eOne.
