If you’re a good prog rock fan, then yesterday you celebrated “Rush Day” (2-1-12). And while we noted how everyone’s favorite Canadian prog trio deserves more love from the mass media, we also made it clear we never wanted to see “Tom Sawyer” performed on Glee. Well, maybe we should have said American Idol, since last night’s episode featured a contestant hopeful trying to sing the Rush classic.

To 22 year old David Weed’s credit, his rendition of Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” wasn’t all that bad. That is, at least not as bad as other auditions. Still, the judges weren’t impress by Weed’s rendition. And while at first it comes off as Rush getting shown no love once again, we liked hearing Randy Jackson say that Geddy Lee’s voice “sounds really good” when trying to hint at Weed’s weak singing abilities. Guess we won’t see Weed singing with Rush on American Idol’s season finale like James Durbin did with Judas Priest.

You can watch video of Weed’s audition above.
