Because when you think of patriotism and wrestling, you think of…Tool? Well, you probably wouldn’t have thought that before last night, but now you will. Tool guitarist Adam Jones performed an instrumental version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” last night at the WWE’s SummerSlam PPV event.

As awesome as it was to hear Jones play “The Star-Spangled Banner,” it still is, to say the least, an odd sight to witness. Sure, the PPV was in LA (Tool’s home turf), but Jones is still the last guitarist we’d expect to see at a wrestling event (seriously, Slash wasn’t available?). Jones shredding amid the footage of waving flags and soaring eagles in a stadium full of people that paid money to see grown men in spandex perform choreographed moves with each other was pretty incongrouous, and we bet Jones’ bandmate Maynard James Keenan would have something to say about it. Then again, this wasn’t the first time Tool randomly popped up in an unusual place.

You can watch video of Jones’ performance at SummerSlam up top.
