John Petrucci Confirms Finding New Dream Theater Drummer…Just Not Who

What A Tease

Since Dream Theater announced that they will continue on without founding drummer Mike Portnoy, fans have been waiting anxiously to see who will be their new man behind the drum kit. We knew that at least seven drummers auditioned and that the band has already scheduled plans to perform next year, including their co-headlining slot at the U.K.’s High Voltage Festival. Yet as we arrive closer to the end of 2010, we still don’t know much about who even auditioned, let alone who the new drummer will be.

However, in a recent update from guitarist John Petrucci, it has been confirmed that Dream Theater has indeed found a new drummer. Petrucci didn’t, though, reveal the one detail we all want to know: the drummer’s identity. The guitarist shared the following regarding Dream Theater’s new drummer:

“I know that the big question is ‘Who is the new Dream Theater drummer?’ I also realize that some people are getting frustrated waiting for the news.  Well, auditions went great and we do have someone but we are spending some time getting everything in order before making an official announcement. Let me just say that we are all incredibly excited about our choice and just bursting at the seams to let the world know!”

You can read the rest of his update over at Blabbermouth. It’s not too surprising that a drummer has already been chosen, seeing as how they’ve already began booking new shows, and you can’t blame them for taking their time to publicly announce it. I guess metal prog nerds who have been on the edge of their seats waiting for an announcement will just have to wait longer. We will keep you updated once more is revealed.
