Megadeth’s Dystopia gets January release date, artwork revealed

Posted by on October 2, 2015

The long awaited mysterious Megadeth album has finally gotten an official release date, and it’s scheduled to hit shelves on January 22nd. Seven months after going up on PledgeMusic for pre-orders, the band also unveiled the first song “Fatal Illusion” and the album’s artwork, featuring the newest incarnation of the band’s mascot Vic Rattlehead. This is the first Megadeth album since the departure of Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick, with Chris Adler (Lamb of God) and Kiko Loureiro (Angra) filling in the large shoes left behind.

Dystopia’s Vic is a cyberpunk stylized soldier with a katana in one hand, a decapitated robot head in the other, and a holstered sidearm on his hip standing on the crumbling ruins of a city. The cyborg bounty hunter look is reminiscent of Iron Maiden’s Eddie for Somewhere in Time, but with more stylish attire.
