b75c7a32103cee9d304a3500fd592e8d2c355649_large.Artist Ted Riederer is giving new meaning to the phrase “face-melting metal.” For his series “Primal Sound,” the artist formed skull figures by melting records around a skull mold, leaving the labels intact. The result is a haunting display of music on the brain, something any devoted metalhead can relate to.

The formations almost serve as a tribute  to Riederer’s other business, Never Records,  a combination recording studio and record shop where musicians can cut a mix and have a vinyl record made for them immediately.  Riederer opens the sessions to the public at the New Orleans space where visitors can also purchase select records. The space also hosts the work of other visual artists. Check out a few more of his designs below.
