Finnish band Apocalyptica have been commemorating the 21st anniversary of their breakthrough album, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos by touring North and South America. However, last night’s show, which was to take place in St. Louis at The Pageant, was cancelled due to protests and violencethat’s been going on in the city following the acquittal of a white police officer that shot an African-American man. Last night’s protests, the fourth, started out peaceful, but turned violent.

Apocalyptica followed in the footsteps of U2, who also cancelled their concert on Saturday in the city and Ed Sheeran, who cancelled his on Sunday. All three acts were concerned that the St. Louis police department, who have been busy with protesters, would not be adequately able to protect concertgoers or venue staff. This isn’t the only cello-related cancellation in the wake of violence – the St. Louis Symphony cancelled their weekend performances of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – In Concert as well.
