Drummer Lars Ulrich has been at the Cannes Film Festival in France promoting Metallica’s new 3D IMAX film, Metallica Through the Never. But today, Metallica has unleashed a trailer for the film, giving fans their first taste of official footage.

The trailer features scenes of Metallica performing onstage to a sold out arena and scenes featuring actor Dane DeHaan (who plays a young band crew member sent out on an “urgent mission” while the band is onstage crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down). It pretty much reassures everyone that Metallica Through the Never will be very much in a similar vein as Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains The Same (plenty of narrative to go along with performance shots). However, the scenes of Metallica actually playing look amazing (the same feeling we had when fan filmed footage of the show leaked), and is enough to make us actually look forward to seeing this in theaters. And we should hope so since according to James Hetfield, the film is what’s keeping Metallica away from the studio (despite having “enough material” for an album).

Watch the trailer for yourself in the video player below. Metallica Through the Never will be screened on every IMAX theater in North America on September 27.
