Metal By Numbers 11/13: Stryper has a hell of a debut

Posted by on November 14, 2013

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

We had A LOT of debuts last week. Naturally, there isn’t much this week besides Impending Doom and Melvins. Still, it’s all worth checking out to display your record selling knowledge to your friends or just to say you did.

Notable Debuts:

Stryper, No More Hell To Pay, (Frontiers) #33, 9,575 sold

The band put out an album earlier this year and decided to grace us with another. Get it? Grace? This is an amazing debut for a band that many wrote off long ago. The universally good reviews may have helped. Or maybe the album cover.

Impending Doom, Death Will Reign (eOne) #105, 4,300 sold

The band’s fifth album is out only a year after the first.

Our Last Night, Oak Island EP (Self-Released) #153, 2,750 sold

This post-hardcore band’s EP gets a good debut.

Melvins, Tres Cabrones (Ipecac) 1,625 sold

The band’s 19th album has a title that translates to “three bastards,” and is a takeoff of ZZ Top’s Tres Hombres.

Notable Sales:

Linkin Park, Recharged (Warner Bros.) #29, 10,540 sold

This remix album drops 68% in week two.

The band is set to headline Download next year.

Korn, The Paradigm Shift (Prospect Park) #76, 5,700 sold

Did you see Brian “Head” Welch’s lovely face tattoo yet?

Seether, Seether 2002-2013 (Wind-Up) #98, 4,650 sold

We forgot that Seether was on the soundtrack for The Punisher.

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #109, 4,200 sold

At week 15, this has sold over 280,000 in total, and the next one’s coming in less than a week.

Nine Inch Nails, Hesitation Marks (Columbia) #123, 3,650 sold

A 13% boost this week. Guess everyone went out and bought a copy. Or a copy of a copy of a copy of…

Over 45,000 sold this week.

Metallica, Through The Never (Blackened) #168, 2,600 sold

If you were hoping for another Big 4 show, don’t expect one anytime soon.

Motörhead, Aftershock (UDR) #172, 2,550 sold

This gets another drop of 38%. At least Lemmy is healing up.

Skillet, Rise (Atlantic), #179, 2,375 sold

This got a boost of 12%. I stand corrected.

Def Leppard, Viva! Hysteria (Frontier) #185, 2,250 sold
