Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with American Dream Machine’s Shawn Adams as he’s been embracing this time to set the “reset” button on his life to focus on things that matter.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
There has been a lot of writing, eating, smoking, sleeping, video games, and of course playing music. That, and checking things off the good ol’ ‘to-do’ list. This has been a great opportunity to hit the ‘reset’ button on life and focus on the things that actually matter.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
There’s been non stop music in our house. Mostly old favorites like Coheed & Cambria, Thrice, A Day To Remember, Jimmy Eat World, Killswitch, Circa Survive, Tillian, etc. Our friends over in Awake At Last just dropped their cover of ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ and it fuckin’ rips.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
Lots of veggies, meat, and pasta! I really want to get into pickling and have an assortment of spicy and sweet pickles. We had tacos for dinner and realized we didn’t have tortillas, so we made them from scratch. They got the job done for sure!
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
The ‘Final Fantasy VII REMAKE’ dropped and that has been consuming my life. I have been waiting for that game to come out since I was a little kid. If you’ve never played it, go do yourself a favor and dive in. ‘Call of Duty WARZONE’ has been the team game of choice for me and my friends. There’s never been a better time to stay up all night with your boys and game till the sun comes up. Now when it comes to TV, ‘Westworld’ has been the one I look forward to every week. Almost anything HBO puts out is incredible. I’m also in the process of finishing the ‘Game of Thrones’ books, since the show decided to shit the bed in the last season. Hopefully George R.R. Martin can stick the landing!
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
Utilize this time! Take that government money, pay your bills, but for the love of god use this as a time to reset your life. If you’re lucky enough to not get sick and have nothing but time, learn something new! I have a few friends taking coding classes so they can try to change careers. It’s easy to get lost in the boredom, endlessly scrolling through instagram for the ten thousandth time. Do some pushups, get your blood flowing, and start making changes! All the knowledge in the world is waiting for you to take it in. Learn something new and change your life!
