Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Broadside as they’ve been spending this time making beer bread and watching the new season of Ozark.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Pat Diaz: So far, I’ve found that any combination of these activities can help pass quarantine time effectively: playing an obscene amount of video games (Fortnite and Call of Duty), riding my bike (with the recommended 6ft of social distance), watching a lot of videos about cooking (shout out to Bon Appetit) and videos about guitar care and maintenance. When I’m not doing any of that, I’m playing though our new album so it stays fresh in my mind.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Pat Diaz: As far as music goes, I’m pretty big into kpop and two of my favorite groups, BTS and Seventeen, each put out albums in the past two months. So I’ve been pretty heavy into those, as well as the groups’ catalogs. I’ve also found myself enjoying the new songs that The Acacia Strain has been putting out periodically. I’m not much of a playlist guy. When I listen to music, I tend to listen to one artist at a time and put their songs on shuffle. In addition to TAS, I’ve been listening to the Boston Manor singles a good bit and the two albums that Nine Inch Nails just put out.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Dom Reid: I was a pretty avid home chef even before this quarantine so I’ve been taking advantage of this extra time at home to cook. I made ravioli from scratch the other night; took forever but was so worth it. All the grocery stores were out of yeast because everyone in the nation is learning to bake their own bread currently, so I made beer bread which, in my opinion, is easier and better than normal bread.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Dom Reid: I‘ve been watching (and loving) Curb Your Enthusiasm and the new season of Ozark, and I’m desperately trying to get through season 2 of Westworld with not much luck. Rewatching all the Harry Potter movies as well. As far as games go, the guys and I play Fortnite nearly every night together. We aren’t very good but it’s just more fun than us just texting in our group chat.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Jeff Nichols: During this isolation, it can be tough to deal with having your normal routine completely turned upside down. So something I’ve been doing during this time, is not letting the absence of my “normal life” get me down. If you have a passion for writing, reading, exercising, etc…, do what you can to continue. Take a walk, read a good book, write music, or simply call a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile. Stay positive and remember everyone’s in this together.
