Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Eyehategod’s Mike IX Williams as he’s been working on new music, reading, and staying inside as much as possible.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Smoking, doing ketamine, drinking 35 cups of black tea a day (PG Tips obviously), yelling at the neighbors… Lots of reading and writing. I just injected bleach today and I’m feeling terrible. Please don’t listen to ignorant dangerous childlike arrogant piece of shit USA presidents 

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Of course! Listening to some old things and new things like Johnny Thunders, Davidians, Bright Eyes, Fried E/M, Institute – Subordination LP, School Jerks, Jesse Stewart, Straightjacket Nation, Out Cold, Hank Wood & the Hammerheads, Dead Boys, Laughing Hyenas, Poison Idea, Void – Sessions 81-83, Songs: Ohia, Richard Hell and the Voidoids – Blank Generation, Sheer Terror, Weirdos, Dwarves, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Hot Snakes, the Fall, Sleaford Mods, Ho99o9 and on and on… 

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Lots of Impossible Burger (with broccoli, spinach, cauliflower), grilled cheese and tomato, Domino’s pizza, and the old standbys;  Honeycomb, Cheerios (peanut butter, honey nut) with almond milk… Oh yeah Polar seltzer water (orange vanilla, cranberry-lime etc..) and God’s own creation: Pepsi.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Fanzine Boston HC book by Mike Gitter, the Beastie Boys book, Fucked Up and Photocopied, the Kitchen Readings – Hunter S. Thompson, Ketamine: Dreams and Realities, White Riot: Punk & the Politics of Race… TV & movies  have been Narcos, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure & every true crime documentary known to man. Also all Ramones live shows on YouTube.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time? 

Stay safe and wear a mask and gloves, Stay inside as much as possible and away from me. Create art, write, read, paint, make lots of music!  Please buy our merch so we can stay hydrated. We will be back on the road and also finishing our new album soon enough!
