Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Gorgatron’s Karl Schmidt (vocals) and Cameron Dewald (bass) as they’ve been spending this time working on new music.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Karl: Listening to whole discographies, working out like fuck, and practicing instruments.

Cameron: Working, recording and demoing with Gorgatron and EL SUPREMO (which also features Neal from GTron) and trying to not get caught up in the daily hysteria like most people.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Karl: Yeah I really fell in love with “The Last In Line” by the band DIO. I’ve also been listening to the DOOM Eternal soundtrack and Run the Jewels 4.

Cameron: Been jamming the new Kirk Windstein album, a lot of The Bakerton Group and I’ve really been digging the live streams ANTiSEEN has been doing.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Karl: I made a lot of soup and casseroles during quarantine but I mostly focused on different ways to cook beef, On the Grill or cast iron mostly.

Cameron: Grilling A LOT……

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Karl: I didn’t watch too much television or play a whole lot of video games, but I’d say “Midnight Gospel” on Netflix and check out the game DOOM eternal.

Cameron: Most of my entertainment is podcast or YouTube interviews (history/social commentary) etc.. I’ve been thumbing through a world history book a lot titled Tragedy And Hope by Carroll Quigley.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Karl: Use your time wisely, I don’t think we will ever get this much free time again. If you didn’t pick up a skill or do something you’ve always wanted to but didn’t have the time, you really messed up and should rethink your life strategy.

Cameron:  Don’t take anyone’s bullshit, think for yourself and live life to its fullest potential… Oh and listen to fucking DEATH METAL! Cheers!
