Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Motion Device drummer David Menoudakis as he’s been spending this time focusing on his YouTube channel

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

During this quarantine, I really used this time to focus a lot on my own Youtube channel ‘DrumsByDavid.’ Whether it was creating new videos or simply working on trying to get better as a player The quarantine really allowed me to get my mind focused on the band’s new album release Motion Device IV and it also gave me the chance to push forward with a lot of new things involving music and video editing without any distractions.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I definitely have been listening to a lot of music of all types of genres. Even though the band tends to play a lot of prog rock and metal I like to listen to all types of music. This allows me to expand creatively and opens my mind up to endless ideas. Other genres actually end up creeping into my style even when it comes to playing the heavier stuff and I think that’s really important. I’ve been listening to a lot of chill or vibey music – check out Beach House or Tame Impala for that kind of thing.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

To be honest, I don’t cook a lot, whatever I have easy access to is what I eat! Since the pandemic began I’ve tried cooking a little more and lately, I am trying a lot of different things. It usually involves mom’s leftovers of some kind and mixing things up. I do like to make my own pizza style meals so I’m always combining different breads, sauces, vegetables and meats. My older sister and I actually love this tuna melt pizza we’ve been eating a lot of lately. If I had the choice to bake something sweet I might try and make some nice apple pie especially during these cold times we’re about to get into here in Canada.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I enjoy watching a lot of horror movies or psychological thrillers. Some good ones are Donnie Darko, 1408, and even the Halloween movie series – anything horror works for me. I do like to play video games as well. I spend a lot of time playing Call of Duty with buddies in my spare time or grinding Rocket League, a crazy car/soccer game.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Don’t just sit there and scroll through your phone aimlessly! Do something or anything productive. I know this pandemic has been a terrible thing for a lot of people but it gave me time to work on things that I wouldn’t have had the chance to otherwise. I learned a lot about recording in my band’s new recording studio during this time so it definitely wasn’t all bad for me. I think I learned a lot about myself too.
