Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Necrot’s Sonny Reinhardt as he’s been spending this time hiking and riding motorcycles.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Mostly hiking and riding motorcycles! Great ways to social distance. I would definitely say spending some time outdoors and away from crowds of people has been pretty key for me to keeping some sanity right now. Been riffing lots of guitar, and helping come up with some custom effects pedal ideas too. Check out Micheal Klein Audio Design!

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I’ve been listening to a lot of heavy 70s psych rock type shit like Lucifer’s Friend, Atomic Rooster, Buffalo, Amon Duul II, Iron Claw, Frijid Pink, Bang!, Blues Creation, Dust,Randy Holden, old Uli era Scorps, Ufo,etc. That shit has such soul and warmth to the songs and production! I’ve also been jamming some thrash and death lately too. Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Death, Exodus, Slayer, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Entombed, Immolation, you know, all the hits! Underground shit like Fetid, Cerebral Rot, Vorlust,Cthonic Diety, PLF, Noisear, Blood Incantation, Superstition,Torture Rack, Mortous, Evulse, Skullshitter, Derkata, Faceless Burial and so many others, I could go on and on! This is a great time for finding newer underground heavy music. I’ve also been into listening to lots of old punk, soul and 80s jams lately too. I am pretty unashamedly all over the place with my musical tastes.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Where we live there are some really good farmers markets and amazing grocery stores with awesome fresh produce. Lots of killer fresh salads, pastas, grains, fresh fish and organic meats, soups, etc. I mostly tend to eat veggie healthy diet stuff, but I dabble! I’ve also been into making my own Pico de Gallo salsa and probably gonna try making my own ceviche soon. We’ve got no shortage of killer taco trucks here and I rarely get sick of that food.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Check out The Boys on Amazon! 13th on Netflix is something everyone needs to watch right about the history of systemic racism in our country. Really well done documentary. I also got into watching a lot of old horror stuff on Shudder for a bit. I really liked The Changeling! Mandy was pretty badass. The new Creepshow episodes were fun and I like watching old Dario Argento, Fulci, Bava, etc. I’m not a huge expert on the genre like a lot of people but I do enjoy a good fright from time to time. I hear that Night Flight is back and has its own station now. Lately for laughs I’ve been watching that show Community and Curb your Enthusiasm. This is kind of embarrassing to say but recently rewatched all of True Blood haha! Damn fang bangers! Rewatching The Walking Dead right now. Also check out Midnight Gospel, Midnight Diner, Hannibal, Hunters, Lucifer, True Detective, Mindhunter, lots of good TV to lose your mind in right now.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Try to get enough sun, fresh air and exercise. Get outdoors and away from the city if you are able to. Take breaks from social media and the news. Listen to music you love, do art and create cool stuff. If you’re not inspired to do that stuff, don’t beat yourself up about it either. This is a crazy time right now so you can’t always be expected to feel inspired, it’s ok and it will come back! Connect with family and friends on Zoom, Facetime, Skype or whatever. Don’t buy into people’s hate and hype about what they say is happening or not happening with the pandemic. Just stay safe and try to stay healthy and grounded. Trust your instincts! If it doesn’t feel right being around a ton of people don’t put yourself in that position. Stay positive!
