Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Xibalba’s Brian Ortiz as he’s been spending this time working from home.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

Working from home mostly, watching a lot of movies and series on all kinds of platforms, talking to family and friends via facetime.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Too much to be honest. That is all I do while working, chillin on my porch and when I am not watching movies. Lately I have been hooked on the new Hum record, Dearth, Drown, Ixachitlan, Cult of Fire and many more. I am not much of a playlist type guy, I like to listen to full albums. I have been listening to this new Sopranos podcast called Talkin Sopranos too.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Just basic stuff that me and my fiance cook up. Lot’s of Italian food. We will cook our sauce all day to have it ready by dinner or the day after. We have been messing with different vegetarian and vegan ways to make it.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Sopranos! I have rewatched it a million times and started slowly rewatching it again. I am on the last season. Books, I am currently reading The History of the Chichimecs. I am not much of a gamer type but I do love movies! I have watched so many fuckin movies, it’s insane! One that sticks out is Parasite, that we watched twice since this whole pandemic started. I have also been rewatching a lot of Godzilla flix that have been put up on Amazon and HBOmax.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Stay strong, stay safe and stay productive in whatever it is you love. Or find something that you have always wanted to do or learn and say “fuck it” and learn that shit.
