Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine: Zyclops’ Ryan Pankratz has mastered the art of staring at a wall

Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Zyclops’ Ryan Pankratz (guitar/vocals) as he’s been spending this time mastering the art of staring at a wall.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

I like to draw/paint and build things… I also spend more time skateboarding than the average 45 year old man does. Writing riffs and song ideas, etc… I’ve definitely mastered the art of staring at a wall.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

The new Boris is great, as well as the new Old Man Gloom. Some local dudes here in Austin called Exhalants have a new one out and they kill it… there are 2 new Radiant Knife releases available and those dudes are legitimate astropshychoticists!!! check out Easy Prey’s new release as well!

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I’m on a smoothie kick right now. I recently quit drinking so this is my new fixation. And peanut butter crackers… I can never get enough.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

Knives Out was cool or fun, whatever… The 13 was good. I really like Western history and I’ve been reading Empire of the Summer Moon, mostly about the rise and fall of the Comanche Indians. Learn your history, folks… it sure as hell wasn’t as pretty as they painted it when I was in school. Borrowed time and stolen ground…

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

My advice is to watch our new video for “Ghost” on repeat with the volume all the way up. Maybe even go download the EP if you’re feeling it. I’m about to go change that “name your price” shit here pretty soon so get it while the gettin’s good!
