Remember When: Slash was an animated character on ‘Kid Notorious’?

So when metal/hard rock acts do actually pop up in beloved sitcoms, dramatic films, cartoons or even reality series, it’s kind of awesome. So in the weekly column Remember When, Metal Insider recalls the most random instances of metal’s elite appearing in front of the camera.

This month, the unbelievable happened: Slash and Axl Rose appeared on the same stage together… and so far, they’re still able to tolerate each other. The idea of ever seeing these two original Guns N’ Roses members in the same room (let alone onstage) seemed unimaginable. In fact, fans would expect to see Slash appear in a cartoon show before he’d be seen onstage with Axl… partly because he has… numerous times.

Granted, Slash is no stranger to the world of TV and animation. Hell, some could argue that he’s been way too eager for some screen time. However in 2003, the top hat wearing guitarist voiced a recurring caricature of himself on Kid Notorious, an animated series about the wild life of Hollywood producer Robert Evans. In the show, Slash played Evans’ close friend and next-door neighbor. How did Slash nab the role you ask? Well believe it or not, Slash is a close friend of the producer in real life, and was (at least at one point) actually his neighbor.

Kid Notorious only lasted one (absurd, but glorious) season on Comedy Central. Thankfully, though, Slash never had to rely on TV royalties, as he’s done more than fine for himself since (well, even more so now thanks to Guns N’ Roses’ reunion tour). But since we’re talking about it, go ahead and watch the second episode of Kid Notorious online, where Evans decides to go into the celebrity food business after trying Slash’s homemade soup. And as an added bonus, also watch Evans speak at Slash’s Walk Of Fame ceremony, as well as Slash perform the theme song to a legendary film Evans produced (a cover he’s been doing live for years now) below.
