Of course if we’re writing about keyboards, prog-metal band Dream Theater is almost automatically the #1 entry. To be honest, you can’t go wrong with any Dream Theater tune for a list about best metal songs featuring keyboards. However, if we had to pick the definite #1 song, it would have to be “Metropolis, Pt. 1.” The keyboard intro alone to is beyond epic, while original keyboardist Kevin Moore shines throughout the entire song. The song has also become a fan favorite and a standard listening for new fans, even leading Dream Theater to record a sequel in the form of a whole album called Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. And Moore and subsequent synth masters Derek Sherinian and Jordan Rudess have become synonymous with the term “keyboard virtuoso.”
