Honorable Mention: Extinction Level Event

We can’t put these guys in our top five just yet, because they don’t even have an EP out yet. The band, which has three bassists and no guitarists in it, sound promising, though. If Meshuggah had a few extra bassists and no guitars, they’d sound a little like these guys do on their first single and video, “Entropy.”

Honorable Mention: Spinal Tap, “Big Bottom”

Extinction Level Event aren’t the first band to write in bass. Spinal Tap cornered the market years ago with their ode to asses (and basses) “Big Bottom.” Long before “All About That Bass” raped your earholes, the fictional supergroup wrote a song that, in keeping with its title, didn’t have any guitars. Because it was only for one song, we’re disqualifying them.
