Pretty much from the get-go, Emmure frontman Frankie Palmeri has been a lightning rod for controversy. He’s aware that many hate him and his band, both because of their deathcore-meets-nu metal sound and Palmeri himself. His Cold Soul merch line has had several controversial T-shirt designs including one referencing the Columbine massacre. And he also wrote a song called “Bring a Gun to School.” Palmeri is no idiot though. He thrives on haters, and even wrote a diss track about Metal Injection (who responded with a diss track of their own). And then there’s the “Eternal Enemies” tour with The Acacia Strain, which is a tour based on the fact that the two bands got into a fistfight with each other. All of this adds up to the band being completely savvy about the fact that they’re hated, and are able to capitalize on it.
