Metal Insider’s Top 5: Political Songs

5. Rage Against The Machine’s “Take The Power Back”

Rage Against the Machine might not have put an album out in years, but they’re one of the more political bands that have come out in the last 20 years. Aside from their music, which was innovative and had an amazing groove, lyricist Zack de la Rocha’s words cut through the music like a scalpel. With phrases like “motherfuck Uncle Sam” and “the present curriculum, I put my fist in ’em, Eurocentric every last one of ’em,” it’s not a song that’s necessarily patriotic. Very much the opposite. But for many Republicans, taking the power back is exactly what they hope to accomplish tomorrow.
