Devin Townsend formed Strapping Young Lad in the early 90s. However, the group was gaining a lot of attention in the summer of 2006 with the release of The New Black and an appearance on Ozzfest. That’s why it was a little surprising that Hevy Devy officially pulled the plug on the group roughly a year later to focus on other projects. While Townsend is constantly busy with his solo projects, he’s made it clear that SYL will never return, stating how “everything that surrounded that band became very negative and I don’t miss that shit at all.” That’s why it was a pretty big deal to see him perform “Detox” and “Love?” with guitarist Jed Simon at the Devin Townsend Project’s Retinal Circus last fall.
