torrential downpourWhy should major label bands be the only ones who get love? Unsigned & Streamed is a column where we stream a song from an unsigned band we at Metal Insider really dig.

New Jersey quartet Torrential Downpour might not have a label, but that doesn’t mean that they’re new to the game. They’ve been around for over a decade and their third full length album, Truth Knowledge Vision will be out on June 10th. Their brand of technical progressive “space metal” has gained them a following in the region and beyond, as they were one of the five bands selected for Metal Sucks’ Converse Rubber Tracks sessions and you’ll be able to hear them on their forthcoming NYC Sucks Vol. 4 compilation.

Metal Insider is proud to premiere the awesomely-titled “Satan, Whatever…” from Truth Knowledge Vision. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Binary Code) at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, NJ. It’s definitely one of the more technical Unsigned & Streamed entries that’s crossed our deck, with several complex tempo changes, some interesting guitar tones, and a compelling mix of screamed vocals with just enough melody fitting within the five-minute song. This is what guitarist Jason Volpe said about the “Satan, Whatever…”

Our new album – Truth Knowledge Vision touches on areas and sounds not usually focused on in heavy music, and with the track ‘Satan, Whatever…’ we specifically call out the genre we embrace,” says Volpe. “It’s our way of stripping the stigmas from a genre that gets pigeonholed too often. Years of crafting and experimenting has culminated in this recording and we are very excited for people to hear what we have put together.”
