Sale of Kurt Cobain suicide note shirts halted

Posted by on January 14, 2015

cobainnote21 years ago, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide with a shotgun, leaving behind a  suicide note. It took over 20 years, but an Etsy seller has screen printed Cobain’s suicide note on a tank top and was selling them as a tank top. Etsy halted the sale of the shirt, but they were then made available on eBay, selling 16 shirts before they too were taken down from the site.

While we can’t blame someone for trying to profit off a death that occurred 20 years ago, it’s still a tasteless stunt. Because of the manner in which Cobain died, Nirvana’s popularity, and the fact that his wife and daughter are still very much alive, it’s hard to say this is in anything but bad taste. It struck a nerve, with even Reddit users decrying the shirts. When Reddit tells you you’ve gone too far, you’ve officially gone too far. In short, too soon? Yes, too soon.
