While this isn’t new, on the day that Suicidal Tendencies release their first album in 13 years, it seemed appropriate. Amanda Palmer, the rock/cabaret performer perhaps best known outside of her sizable underground fan base for raising over $1 million on Kickstarter to find her new solo album (or maybe for her public battle to get dropped from Roadrunner), covered Suicidal Tendencies’s 1983 classic “Institutionalized” last year. Palmer actually does a pretty admirable job of capturing the rambling paranoia of Mike Muir in the original, and her Grand Theft Orchestra adds brass instruments into the mix without sacrificing the feel of the original too much.
