We’ve heard Ryan Adams perform acoustic renditions of Iron Maiden and Alice In Chains, and we’ve also seen him show off his love for black metal in a talk show parody. And this past Friday (February 17), the alt country singer/songwriter performed a stripped down version of the Dio classic “Holy Diver” at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA.

While it’s rather unusual to hear “Holy Diver” performed as an acoustic number, it’s not such a random cover for Adams. In addition to being a (not so secret) metal head, the singer revealed back in June of 2010 that he had written a handful of songs inspired by the funeral of Ronnie James Dio. Plus, this isn’t the first time Adams has covered the Dio classic live. While he most recently performed an acoustic rendition of the song in LA, he’s performed a more electric cover of “Holy Diver” with his band The Cardinals in the past.

You can watch fan filmed footage of Adams performing an acoustic version of “Holy Diver” in LA above [starting around the 1:35 mark], while a snippet of Adams and The Cardinals performing the song in Manchester, England back in 2006 can be seen after the jump.
