As some of you know, former Dio and Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain passed away over the weekend. The news started to spread after Bain’s former Dio bandmate Simon Wright posted about it on his Facebook and it seems like Vinny Appice was not too happy about it.
Bain passed away aboard of the MSC Divina, the cruise where the Def Leppard ‘Hysteria on the High Seas’ was taking place as Bain was supposed to perform with his band Last In Line. After the unfortunate and sad incident happened, Last in Line revealed the news to the passengers of the cruise and the three remaining band members all told funny stories about Jimmy. Also, three videos were shown on the screen behind them. As the cruise was still happening, the band hadn’t made any official statement about Bain’s death or had even contacted his family to let them know, as Appice explained on his Facebook page:
“Yes, it’s true our brother Jimmy Bain has passed and we are very sad about the news and in shock. We, the band, are also saddened that the news leaked out before we were able to contact Jimmy’s family. Within an hour and a half, it was all over the Internet and confirmed by people that have no business confirming anything about this and not knowing the facts of the situation. We apologize to Jimmy’s family and Jimmy’s memory about this nonsense that seems to prevail on the Internet to be the first one to post something and attach themselves to a tragedy like the loss of our brother Jimmy.”
It’s sad to hear that that news slipped out before his family was informed, and it’s understandable where Appice is coming from. The cruise’s official photographer weighed in about the subject on the following post:
