Normally, Vinnie Paul shoots down the idea of Pantera ever reuniting without Dimebag Darrell. And though he still doesn’t see a reunion ever happening without his brother/the late guitarist, Paul did reveal who he’d recruit to fill in during an interview with Cindy Scull of Dallas/Fort Worth radio station 97.1 the Eagle last Sunday (March 11).

You can watch a video of Paul’s answer above. However, when asked if he’d ever consider doing a Pantera “reunion” with Black Label Society guitarist/ longtime friend Zakk Wylde filling in for Dimebag, Paul said:

“I spent two hours with Zakk, sitting down, a really great talk about, he calls him ‘the old man,’ Ozzy. I mean, him and my brother were so tight. If it ever were to happen, he would be the guy. But I honestly think, out of respect for my brother, I think we should just leave the 14 amazing years Pantera had be.”

Wylde definitely would be the most natural choice to fill in for Dimebag given how close the two were. However, whether such a thing will ever happen still remains extremely unlikely. And as cool as it might be to see the remaining members of Pantera perform with Wylde even for just one show, we also agree with Paul that they should just leave it be.

While the second part of Paul’s chat with 97.1 the Eagle (where he comments on the possibility of Wylde filling in for a Pantera reunion) can be seen above, the first half of the radio interview can be seen after the jump.
