The definitive guide to metal at SXSW 2015

Posted by on March 12, 2015

sxsw-2015Bigger and safer than ever, South by Southwest (or SXSW from here on) kicks off in Austin, TX later this week on Friday (interactive) and a few days after (3/17) for music. South by Southwest has grown from 700 attendees at the inaugural event in 1987 to last year’s 70,000-plus participants. The possibilities during SXSW are endless. Whether you are there for rock, rap, metal, or the latest underground films, there is something for everyone. And even though the festival isn’t focused on metal, there’s plenty for metalheads to enjoy.

In 2015, SXSW promises not only another solid year, but also vow to provide more security and a safer environment. After last year’s tragic drunk driving accident took the lives for four people and injured 21 others and Trash Talk’s “riot” took place, security has been beefed up, especially around curfew time.

Make sure to keep your eyes posted because shows can pop up at any time without warning. You’ll want to make sure to stay hydrated, have the proper footwear, and have an itinerary. However, here’s what to expect from a metal standpoint for showcases, day parties, panels and unofficial parties. From what has been announced so far this plans to be another killer year for shows. This will continue to be updated as we hear about more things happening, so consider this your unofficial guide to all things heavy in Austin.
