Metal Insider contributor Brett Reistroffer’s Top Ten debuts of 2016

Posted by on December 12, 2016

cyborgoctopus3) Cyborg Octopus, Learning to Breathe (Indie)

This eccentric, odd little collection of technical prog metal is hard not to like. It’s diverse, quirky, and can still hit really damn hard.

Track Pick: “Baptism of Clay”

toothgrinder-nocturnal_masquerade2) Toothgrinder, Nocturnal Masquerade (Spinefarm)

It took three EP’s but these guys finally got around to a proper full-length debut and it was worth the wait. The music hits hard and fast but still leaves room for plenty of honest melody.

Track Pick: “Diamonds for Gold”

coffinlust1) Coffin Lust,
Manifestations of Inner Darkness (Hells Headbangers)

This rotting little gem floated around as a demo for a while before finally getting picked up and it’s packed full of grimey deathrash riffs that will rip your face off.

Track Pick: “Swarming Black Inferno”
