I’ve been a fan of Hevy Devy for a lot of years now, and completely buy into his whole cult of personality. The dude’s never written a bad note as far as I’m concerned. Sky Blue shares a lot of musical DNA with his Accelerated Evolution record, something that’s completely welcome in my book, and Dark Matters is exactly the sort of over-the-top, self-aware strangeness I welcome from Devin’s body of work. It’s great, and there’s plenty of it. Shameless fanboyism gets it the #1 spot, but it’s quality keeps it there.
Key track: :”Ziltoid Goes Home”
Honorable mentions: Cynic, Kindly Bent to Free Us; Septicflesh, Titan; I could honestly go on all day. You can see the rest of what I dug in the Spotify playlist below.
