600full-sasha-greyIf you want to read the best metal sites on the web, just look at our blogroll to the right and keep reading this one. But because there’s tons of other news and information all over the interwebs, we occasionally look at other sites. Indie rock blog Stereogum is usually pretty annoying for its trendier than thou attitude, especially that of their commenters (if you wanna get really angry, check out some of the comments for this post about Decibel’s top 40 list). They just came out with their top of the year/decade list, or as they call it, The Gummy Awards. No surprises, for the most part. Animal Collective’s mostly unlistenable and unrelentlessly annoying Merriweather Post Pavillion is the album of the year, even though Mastodon and Them Crooked Vutures made it into the top 50.

Where it gets quasi-interesting is that it has a handful of celebrities posting their top stuff of the year, and metal or metal-leaning stuff popped up on some of the respondents’ lists. Porn star/sometime singer Sasha Grey named Sunn 0)))’s Monoliths & Dimensions as her second favorite album of the year! Andrew W.K.’s top two albums are metal, with Hatebreed’s self-titled album #2 and Napalm Death’s Time Waits For No Slave as his favorite. And Sara Quinn, half of Tegan and Sara, chose Anvil! The Story of Anvil as her favorite movie of the year. Wow, I guess that T-shirt was only half-ironic.
