Mastodon’s latest effort, Emperor of Sand, which was released this past March, is considered one of this years best. It’s also one of Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier’s top ten favorite metal albums of all time. For a while, we thought this release was going to be a double album and we expected Brent Hinds would release a solo album entitled Cold Dark Place on record store day. Despite the promised size, neither events occurred.

Instead, it looks like Cold Dark Place could be a new Mastodon album and we could see its arrival as early as next month. According to thePrp, the now-pulled Amazon listing, revealed the album is scheduled for a September 22nd release via Reprise.

It appears Hinds has confirmed the new album via his Instagram with brand new cover artwork:
