Say what you will about Chickenfoot. The supergroup, featuring Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith, may be an oversimplified rock band, but their self-titled cracked the top 5 and sold a crapload of albums. So it’s understandable that a lot of people are looking forward to a new Chickenfoot album.

In addition to announcing a new distribution deal with eOne Music, the band has posted online an audio teaser for their new sophomore album Chickenfoot III. Wait, Chickenfoot III? As successful as each band member is in their own right, apparently they’re not that good at counting (that, or they wanted to pay tribute to their favorite non-Hagar Van Halen album). You can listen to the teaser for yourself up top. Chickenfoot III will be released on September 27.

This news comes right around the same time as rumors start to spread about new music from Hagar and Anthony’s former band. Earlier this week, David Lee Roth posted the message “Get Ready…” on his official website. While this could be referring to anything, many are speculating that this could be referencing to Van Halen releasing a new single in the very near future. Now granted, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard rumors of new Van Halen music coming out soon. However, seeing that the band will be taking part in Australia’s Soundwave Revolution, and that apparently Creed/Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti got the chance to hear new music, it’s very possible that we may finally get a new Van Halen album.

So which will you choose? New Chickenfoot or new (emphasis on NEW) Van Halen? Once again, fans get to choose between the Red Rocker and Diamond Dave, even though it’s not 1985 again.
