5) The Obsessed

Hard rockers The Obsessed signed with Relapse Records and went into the studio to record the follow-up to 1994’s The Church Within. The album is currently titled as Sacred and you can hear a demo of the song “Be The Night” here.

4)
Sleep

The only release Sleep has unleashed since reforming in 2009 was the song “The Clarity” back in 2014. It was the first we heard anything new since 2003’s Dopesmoker. There have been a few hints at a new album and the latest one clearly shows they are in the studio ready to record. Hopefully, it will be released before their spring tour this April.

3) Immortal

While 2016 was focused on Abbath’s solo career including his self-titled album release Abbath, 2017 looks like we can find out what Immortal is up to. So far we know that they are in the studio this month with producer Peter Tagtgren and they “look forward to record and present the new album to the IMMORTAL hordes sometime in 2017.”

2) System of a Down

Is System of a Down returning to the studio and record a new album? Drummer John Dolmayan confirmed yes, reminding us that this isn’t a dream nor a hallucination, it is really happening and we should expect to see a release sometime in 2017 (hopefully).

1)Tool

Tool’s fourth studio album10,000 Days was released in May 2006. Their last New York City performance was in May 2006. After an eleven year absence, Tool will return to New York City, headlining Governors Ball at New York’s Randall’s Island. There is a chance this could be just a one-off show, however, there have been reports and signs that they are working on a new album. Hopefully, this is more than a random coincidence and 2017 could be the year for one of the most anticipated albums.
