SunandSailClubIf you were to imagine what a band featuring two members of Fu Manchu and a former Kyuss bassist would sound like, you’d probably assume it’s a stoner rock riff fest. With new band Sun and Sail Club, you’d be half right. The band, which consists of Fu Manchu vocalist/guitarist Bob Balch and a pair of guys named Scott Reeder (former Kyuss bassist Scott Thomas Reeder and Fu Manchu drummer Scott Reeder), put a new twist on riff-driven rock by having the vocals sung via vocoder. The result is not unlike Daft Punk losing control of their Tron light cycles and crashing into Torche. The band debuted a song, “Held Down,” on Revolver yesterday. Taken from their debut album, Mannequin, the song is plenty heavy, but the vocals make it sound more experimental, like Trans Am, Air or even Kraftwerk.

Mannequin is released on November 19th on Satin Records Recordings.
