OK, ok, we know that former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan isn’t particularly metal, but his familiar baritone has graced nearly every Queens of the Stone Age album, and his songs are as heavy as any metal song in subject matter. Now the singer is poised to release his first album in seven years, Blues Funeral, on Beggars Group on February 7 under the name “Mark Lanegan Band.” Album opener “The Gravedigger’s Song” sounds like the best QOTSA song in years, showing that his time spent touring with the band definitely rubbed off on Lanegan. In fact, Josh Homme and Lanegan’s former Gutter Twins bandmate (and Afghan Whigs singer) Greg Dulli will make appearances on the album, as will Eleven/Peal Jam drummer Jack Irons. This will be playing on a loop for the rest of the day at the Metal Insider headquarters.
