incarnateA lot of bands mellow with age, but Killswitch Engage isn’t one of them. Jesse Leach’s return to the band back in 2012 suggested that the band might be a little more mellow, especially after some of the music on 2011’s Times of Grace, his project with KSE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, was melodic. Disarm the Descent, Leach’s first album back in the band, was pretty heavy, but nothing comes close to the heaviness of Incarnate‘s album opener, “Alone I Stand.” There are some guttural growls on the song, which is a pretty uncommon thing to hear from the band. Of course there’s also an anthemic chorus, because it wouldn’t be a Killswitch song without one.

The band, who are playing five NYC shows in the leadup this Friday’s release of Incarnate, will also be releasing a song a day from the album leading up to the March 11th release. The album will be released on Roadrunner Records, and you can preorder it here.
