As the founder of The Obsessed, Scott “Wino” Weinrich is pretty much the godfather of doom metal. His subsequent bands, Saint Viuts, The Hidden Hand, Spirit Caravan, Shrinebuilder and his solo project have borne that out. And while he’s had plenty of success with his subsequent projects, and The Obsessed have even reunited to play some shows, but they haven’t released a full length album since 1994. That’s going to change, though, as the band is going to record a new album, per a note that Wino left on The Obsessed’s Facebook page:

This is Wino. First, thanks to all our friends, fans and families everywhere for  their tirelesss support we’ve received on this journey we chose in making the music we love.

All over the world I’ve listened to friends tell me we want you to bring back the Obsessed so I have decided to resurrect the Obsessed.

I have been waiting for the right combination of Ability, Attitude and Personality to accomplish this goal. From this day forward The Obsessed is myself, Dave Sherman and Brian Constantino who have proven to be dedicated, fearless and unwavering in their love of this music.

We are diligently writing and working on getting into the studio to record a new Obsessed album and hope to have this out as soon as possible.

Both Sherman and Constantino, who play with Wino in Spirit Caravan, would be new Obsessed members. The last music the Obsessed put out was a 7″ single, Sodden Jackal, in 2012.
