Bassist Craig Gruber, who played on Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, and two Elf albums with Ronnie James Dio, passed away yesterday at the age of 63.

Gruber was in Black Sabbath for a quick minute, too, after Dio replaced Ozzy. Geezer Butler, who posted a link to Gruber’s medical fundraiser earlier this year, left the band but would return to record Heaven and Hell in 1980.

But Gruber would be involved in many bands throughout the 80s, like Bible Black, Ozz, The Rods, and he toured with the Gary Moore Band. He stayed active in music, having recently joined Raven Lord in 2013.
