We’ve known for a while that Deftones have been working on the follow-up to 2016’s Gore. Their upcoming ninth full-length album is already one of our most anticipated albums of the year. Thanks to a recent Instagram post, these alternative metallers have revealed the return of producer Terry Date. This is big news for veteran Deftones fans as we can anticipate sounds from Adrenaline, Around The Fur, and White Pony will somehow resurface with their next record. All we can say is, welcome back Date! Keyboardist/sampler Frank Delgado shared a photo on the band’s Instagram of Date and frontman Chino Moreno in the studio on May 25th of last year at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, CA.

Additionally, it looks like the group’s album will arrive in the later half of this year. Drummer Abe Cunningham caught up with Australia’s Mixdown and revealed the new album is currently being mixed and it should be released around late 2020:

“We did things a little bit differently this time. We stretched everything out over the course of a couple of years, rather than blasting through in one go. The process has been mixed with about a year-long break, that we all agreed upon. Being rested and taking that time off really made us appreciate what we’re doing even more. When we’re all laughing and smiling and coming up with stuff together, just like when we were 17… it’s a beautiful thing.”

Hopefully, the new album will be released just in time for their summer tour with Gojira and Poppy.
