It’s been over two months since the passing of rock legend Eddie Van Halen and now we know a little more about his official cause of death

TMZ published Van Halen’s death certificate on Monday (14th), reporting that the cause listed on it was a cerebrovascular accident, better known as a stroke. The certificate also mentioned lung cancer, pneumonia and bone marrow disorder Myelodysplastic Syndrome as underlying causes of his passing. Van Halen also suffered from skin cancer on his neck and head and atrial fibrillation, though those were not listed as related to his death.

The TMZ report also mentioned that Van Halen was cremated 22 days after his passing. His ashes were given to his son Wolfgang. According to sources cited by the site, one of Eddie’s final wishes was for his ashes to be scattered off the coast of Malibu, CA.

Eddie Van Halen passed away on October 6 surrounded by family after a more than six-year battle with throat and lung cancer. He was 65. Following the news, musicians from all over the industry paid tribute to the legendary guitarist, including his former bandmates and family. In November, son Wolfgang dedicated his debut solo single, ‘Distance,’ to his father.
