For over three months, Slipknot fans have been trying to discover the identity of the group’s mysterious percussionist. The unknown new member has also been given the nickname, Tortilla Man. There’s been an ongoing maggot-based investigation via Reddit as we’ve seen updates such as Tortilla Man’s first signature to tracking down a pair of sneakers. While this search has been entertaining and feels like a real-life Scooby Doo episode, fans have turned into great detectives as it looks like this investigation is coming to a close.
There’s a brand new theory via Reddit, which could be the most convincing speculation we’ve seen. This particular theory arrived shortly after guitarist Jim Root’s interview with The Art and Span Show as he shared the following clues:
“I think we’re just gonna let it ride,” he said (hear audio below). “Eventually people will find out who he is; it’s just inevitable in this day and age.
He’s a character, man. I didn’t really know him very well before he started playing with us. But he’s a hell of a musician, man. The guy is a world-class pianist; he’s a great percussionist; he is schooled in music. He’s not just a garage musician who came up and learned on his own. He obviously had natural ability, but he took it to another level and actually got a degree in music. So the guy is next level. Plus he’s just out of his mind. I didn’t think it was possible for anybody to match us. And I’ll be standing there playing and all of a sudden I’ll hear this thump next to me, and he’ll have jumped down from his drum set. He’s, like, next to me.”
Once Root mentioned Tortilla Man is a “world-class pianist,” the Maggot investigators focus moved towards percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan and his other band, Dirty Little Rabbits. Michael Pfaff handles keyboards and organ for Clown’s side project as many are now putting the puzzle pieces together believing that this musician is the man behind Tortilla Man’s mask.
