The Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds Of Summer are working on a new album, and they’ll be getting some lyric writing help from Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx. Sixx Tweeted at the group while they accepted their award for Best Fan Army at the iHeartRadio Music Awards show. The band made it official and RT’d Sixx moments later. A member of the band was wearing a Crüe shirt while accepting the award last night, which isn’t the first time a band member wore a shirt from a metal/punk band.

Sixx explained writing songs for other people in an interview with MTV back in 2002, when the ‘Crüe went on break after the death of drummer Randy Castillo.

“When you write with and for somebody else, you write [something] and then it’s gone. Your baby’s gone and you have no control of whether it ends up on the record, if it even gets recorded, or if it gets recorded the way you might have envisioned it. It’s a lesson in letting go.”

Nikki Sixx co-wrote Meatloaf’s “Man of Steel” and Saliva’s “Rest in Pieces,” with James Michael, who would later become the vocalist of Sixx:A.M.
