In an interview with Auburn, Washington’s 99.9 KISW at their “Pain in the Grass” event, Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe touched on a variety of topics from his favorite concerts and the possibility of touring with Kendrick Lamar, to Presidential candidate Donald Trump. The full interview can be heard below.

A couple of people called up Metal Shop last night stoked about seeing their first concert ever. What show has made a huge impact on you as a kid growing up?

Bad Brains, CoC, Leeway, in 1988 at the Jetty in Virginia Beach. Best show I’ve ever seen.

You guys have been killing it with the new record, Sturm Und Drang, not only with metalheads but on Billboard, you guys hit #3. First of all, congratulations, second of all, is that something that you guys pay attention to as a band or does that come as a result of the hard work?

What you have to understand is that us killing it in Billboard is just metalheads because metalheads still buy records. It’s not Britney Spears fans coming out . Taylor Swift’s fans aren’t listening to the new Lamb of God record. Metalheads just support artists and actually buy records. I try not to pay too much attention to record sales because it really doesn’t mean a thing, the shows are where it’s at and there seem to be a lot of people here today.

I think it’s going to be pretty intense out there, man. A lot of youngsters out there in the pit.

(Feigning old age) Wear your helmets, kids. Knee pads.

What are some bands that you haven’t  played or toured with that are still on the bucket list for you?

Ooh. Well, in the metal world there’s not many. We’ve checked off just about every, I mean, we’ve played with all of the Big 4. We’ve had Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica multiple times. As far as bands I’d like to tour with, I wanna do “The Confusion Tour.” Us, Kendrick Lamar, Hank Williams III, and stuff like that.

(Announcer voice parody) ” ‘Kendrick Lamar, Lamb of God, Hank Williams III tour confirmed for 2017’ – Blabbermouth says.”

Just a bunch of different bands. It’s cool to tour with all the metal bands, but when you go to Europe and play these festivals, you’ll play with Kendrick Lamar, or Hank Williams III, a big mixed bill, and it’s cool to see the music fans coming together.

How about this, Donald Trump is #1 on the Republican side of

“Can I just start cussing? Is this on FM? Is this on FM radio?”

Are we live right now? No?

F*ck that dude! ( Crowd cheers) All right, look. I’ve been in Lamb of God twenty years, right? I’ve had a job since I was 14. For ten of the twenty years when I was in Lamb of God, I was a roofer and a restaurant worker at the same time; I didn’t hatch out of a rock-star egg. Donald Trump does not know what the common man does. He has no clue what the average working person goes through in order to pay their bills. He does not give a f*ck about you; he gives a f*ck about protecting big business and the lobbies. You know what I mean? So f*ck that guy, and fuck his hair. He has no need to be the president of the United States. Just ’cause you’re rich doesn’t mean you should be president of the United States.”

Let’s take away the campaign funding, right? Let’s take it all out. The Internet is free, okay? Why don’t you speak about real issues. Take away the money. You know what I mean? They don’t need a bazillion dollars to run a presidential campaign; I’m sorry, it’s just not true. Go to YouTube, you know?

I can’t believe that guy is #1 still. I just wanted to ask, since you’re an intellectual.

It’s hideous. Not just the presidency, but our Congress has been a disgrace. Bipartisan politics, fighting over party lines. Why don’t they care about the American people instead of whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. You know what I mean? Let’s deal with some issues.

“Metal Shop” airs every Saturday night on 99.9 FM KISW in Seattle. It can be heard at www.kisw.com.

Lamb of God’s seventh studio album VII: Sturm Und Drang was released on July 24th via Epic Records in the US and Nuclear Blast Records worldwide, and has been topping charts around the world. Unbiased opinion aside, it’s pretty awesome.
