Hate Eternal has returned with Upon Desolate Sands and the masterful Erik Rutan is poised to give fans the band’s heaviest record to date. Let there be no doubt, this record is heavy on top of heavy. Make sure your speakers are prepared for this ambitious assault.

Hate Eternal is a band that isn’t out to recreate death metal or produce a record that might be, uh… “too extreme!” for the genre. Hate Eternal is an honest band, making honest metal and that’s so evident in this newest record.

Clear standouts on Upon Desolate Sands are “All Hope Destroyed” which takes the listener through a variety of changes and textures throughout the near 6 minute track. The bass on this cut also grabs you with its prominence in the mix. It sounds a bit like Overkill meets Morbid Angel… and it works. “Dark Age of Ruin” is a straight-up gutbuster that doesn’t hold anything back and the final minute of this track is some of the best metal I’ve heard so far this year. And “For Whom We Have Lost” is an emotional instrumental that closes the record and features some insane double bass drumming at the hands of Hannes Grossman.

Upon Desolate Sands will be released next Friday (26th) via Season of Mist record, pre-order the album here. You can also catch Hate Eternal on tour in the United States with Cannibal Corpse and Harms Way. I’ll be catching them about three steps from my office in Lancaster, Pennsylvania!
